Company History

CROSS COUNTRY RENTALS LTD was founded in September 1957, by Geoff Laugesen when there was a need for 4x4’s at the Meremere Power Station construction site.  From there 4x4’s were required on the construction of the Matahina Earth Dam, Wairakei, Twizel, New Plymouth and Huntly Power Projects.  New roading such as the Kopu-Hikuwai Highway and the Auckland motorway increased the demand on our vehicles.  Then came the Gas Pipeline Projects such as Kapuni, Maui, Kinleith, Kawerau, Gisborne, Whangarei, Hawkes Bay and Taranaki - those years were without competition, but CROSS COUNTRY RENTALS LTD had built up such a reputation that demand for it’s services continue to the present.

At the height of the contracts 200 fleet vehicles covered the length and breadth of New Zealand. Today the company is concentrated in the Waikato and has links with its associated companies Cross Country Rentals (WWM) Ltd - Masterton and Cross Country Rentals (TAR) Ltd - New Plymouth The fleet incorporates 4x4’s, minibuses, cars, vans, utilities, furniture trucks and several buses.
